Fort Sumter
Take a step back in time to visit Fort Sumter, which is located in the Charleston Harbor. Built in 1829, this fort has some great views of the mainland marshes and the surrounding water in the harbor. Although it can only be accessed by boat, the journey over is sure to have plenty of photo-ops, and obviously the view from inside the fort isn’t too shabby- check out the historic cannons or the original 33-star flag that was flown during the first shelling of Fort Sumter.
Fun(ish) fact: There were no deaths during the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter at the beginning of the Civil War.
Locals-Only Fact: If you have a boat, you can access the fort fo’ free! If you don’t have a boat, good for you! Friends with boats are the way to go in these parts.
